One night at the Krähenbühl Estate, a horse ripper strikes. Thanks to the efforts of two dedicated criminal investigators, a profiler from the state criminal police, and Dr. Anna Krämer, they manage to unmask the ripper and put an end to the mutilation of the horses. The protagonist is the equine veterinarian Dr. Anna Krämer, in her mid-30s, attractive, ambitious. She stumbles upon the case by chance, as Anna had only been back in her hometown for six months. She had studied veterinary medicine and five years ago had accepted an excellent job offer at a renowned equestrian clinic in Abu Dhabi. Now it was necessary to wind up her deceased parents' company and sell the property. Her sister Bettina had urged her to take over her ten-year-old Quarter Horse mare Starlight Preppy as a riding partner. That was when the cruel horse ripper, a cowardly animal abuser and a murderer, struck.

Author: Paulina M. Luna is German and lives temporarily in the Balearic island Ibiza and Germany. She works as a successful author, translator and horse trainer.

The poisoning

Monday, 5 August

The following days at Krähenbühl Estate followed the usual routine: feeding the boarding horses in the morning, training the individual horses, and holding scheduled riding lessons. Farriers arrived, some with their trainees, who were completing their scheduled appointments. Various veterinarians visited their equine patients for examinations, blood tests, and vaccinations.

Irina had booked a saddler because she was planning to have a new tailor-made saddle for her gelding, Ivan. It was to be made of black and gold leather and adorned with genuine Swarovski crystals.

As the name suggests, Irina was a native Russian. She looked stunning, was the dream of many men and had a visibly sculpted physique.

Behind her back, the girls in the stable mockingly called her a living Barbie doll. The 32-year-old blonde had striking gold-coloured hair and matching extensions to fill out her thin hair.

At a height of 177 cm, Irina was one of those women who starved herself down to a size 34 – XS with iron discipline. To reduce the wrinkles on her face, which had appeared due to the ravages of time and a lack of subcutaneous fat, she had strikingly excessive Botox injections. Trendy"Russian" lips, that protruded cheekily forwards like a carp, were also a must. Her eyebrows, which had originally been jet black, were thick and blocky, accentuated with permanent makeup. Now, however, they shimmered greenish-grey and needed touching up soon.

She always wore glossy makeup, that was a shade too dark for her pale complexion. Her eyes looked like Bambi’s because of her long, glued-on eyelashes. Her nails were carefully shaped with a French manicure; only the little fingernail had a gold-painted horse’s head drawn on it. She wore a nude lip gloss on her Russian lips, which were additionally framed with dark-red permanent makeup and injected with Botox to make them look moist and shiny. Unfortunately, tiny flies stuck to her lips in the summer, a fact that the other riders would spitefully comment on. There were many of the annoying black flies around the horses in the heat!

Without the numerous operations, she would not be so attractive. Franconian officially said,"All the glamour is gone!"

Her extreme appearance, her arrogance, and lack of social skills with female riders made her an outsider and the target of ridicule and malice at the riding facility.
