Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Ten years ago the writer of this work issued a small pocket edition for the,use of Game Fanciers and Cockers. That work is now out of print, the limited number printed having been all disposed of in a year or two after the first issue. It was never the intention to re-issue it in that form, for though of some value, it was incomplete in nearly all respects - in not treating at proper length the important subjects of breeding and cross- ing, breeding in-and-in, breeding to a feather -in describing but a limited number of breeds, strains and crosses -in omit ting, entirely, any theory upon the origin of Games, and any detailed facts connected with their history -in omitting the foreign modes of breeding and feeding, and in giving less at tention to a description and the mode of treating the many diseases incident to fowls. These wants are all at least meas urably filled in this, the enlarged and standard edition. In the labor of writing and compiling the work we have been aided by some of the leading Fanciers and Cockers of the land, and wherever permitted we have credited their contributions, some, however, are anonymous, but all have manifested an interest for which we are thankful.
