Sarah is blessed with beauty. At least, that is what everyone tells her. But her long legs and blond locks attract the wrong kind of attention when a young and ambitious, Wayne Drexel, catches her eye. Misguided by the one who is supposed to love her the most, it takes Sarah over two-decades to find herself and break free of the mental and physical abuse of her husband, Wayne. But Sarah soon finds out that just because the courts say her marriage is over, that doesn't mean that her ex-husband is just going to let her go. Will Sarah be able to find the strength to live the life she always dreamed possible with her new fiancé Brent? Or will she fall back into the pit of despair that Wayne molded for her? This scenario is an emotional rollercoaster that will have you crying and cursing one moment and sighing in awe, holding the book to your heart the next.

S. Heather Carroll lives in sunny Southern California with her husband, two kids, three cats, and a beagle who likes to howl at airplanes. She is a graduate of UC Irvine, with a BA in Fine and Applied Art. Heather loves animals, hiking, nature photography, working in her garden, and Greek food.

Sarah:
It’s been fifteen-months since Wayne and I said “I do”. I spend my days fixing up his apartment, turning it into our home, and on Friday nights he takes me out dancing. Wayne has been working so hard. He will be graduating from college a quarter early and will be starting law school in the spring. He already has an internship lined up at J.P. Parker& Cross Law firm too! It’s just pushing papers for a bunch of ambulance chasers, but it's a foot in the door. He is so smart and focused. I’m so proud of him.
But, I’m finding that poor Wayne gets pretty stressed-out during test time. He gets real quiet and a bit snippy. But that’s okay. Part of being a good wife is supporting your spouse when times are hard. He does so much for me. Supports me financially, and gives me a nice home to live in, plus, a little allowance for groceries and such. He makes sure I’m taken care of: buying me new clothes he thinks will look nice on me, and paying for me to get my hair and nails done. I feel spoiled. He teaches me about the world, and keeps me safe from all of the evil in it.
As he has been taking care of me, I’ve been focused on learning what he likes and needs each day to be the best wife ever. He should be home in the next hour, so I put a clean mug in the freezer to chill so he can enjoy a nice cold beer when he gets home. Then, I pop a casserole in the oven. I’ve been teaching myself how to cook while Wayne has been away at class. It’s been fun, but not all of my dinners are keepers. I hope tonight’s recipe turns out well. It’s a new one. I tidy up the kitchen then go wait for Wayne to arrive home.
Forty-minutes later, Wayne drags himself in the door. He looks like he has had a rough day, so I hop up to greet him with a kiss, and grab his beer from the kitchen.
“Shit Sarah, I’m so worn out. I can’t imagine myself waking up in time for my 8:00 AM Art History course tomorrow morning,” he complained. -He hates art history. But he had to add the class at the
