Chapter Two

Energy and Climate Change

The energy and climate change policies of the Biden administration are two of the primary drivers of the current economic crisis and are the easiest to fix. The obsession with green energy has European countries questioning whether they will have enough energy for their citizens to heat their homes during the cold winter months.

In the 1970s Time Magazine warned us of global cooling and an imminent ice age. In the 1990s we heard about global warming. Conventional terminology today is “climate change.” That term gives scientists a little more “wiggle room” as information changes. No one can dispute that the climate is changing. It has been changing for somewhere around 4.5 billion years and will continue to change for a few billion more without regard to what we mere mortals do. We humans, like the dinosaurs, are only temporary inhabitants of this planet and although we may be able to prolong our lives, we will never rule the Earth. Earth will do its “thing” and decide when it is time for us to go. I do think, though, the cockroach will survive from anything the Earth can throw at it, but we will not.

There is no dearth of fodder to feast on proclaiming that climate change is the greatest threat to our lives, America, and the world. We hear it every day from mainstream media and politicians. However, what you do not hear much about are the opposing arguments by those that do not believe climate change is an existential crisis. If you are not afraid of being called a “Climate Change Denier” you should avail yourself of some of the papers by the CO2 Coalition (co2coalition.org). In a June 9, 2021, CO2 Coalition statement, Dr. Richard Lindzen, professor emeritus of atmospheric science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, says, “What historians will definitely wonder about in future centuries is how deeply flawed logic, obscured by shrewd and unrelenting propaganda, actually enabled a coalition of powerful special interests to convince nearly everyone in the world that carbon dioxide from human industry was a dangerous, planet-destroying toxin.” Wikipedia says the CO2 Coalition claims are disputed by a majority of climate scientists, but that may be because it does not adhere to the popular narrative. However, it is important to understand both sides of any argument. Whether you take climate change seriously or not, we should do what we can to keep the planet’s climate friendly to us; however,
