To make ourselves understand how important we really are, we need to invest in ourselves and treat ourselves like an honoured guest. How much we achieve in life depends to a huge degree on how well we can communicate with our inner self. Knowing ourselves differs from merely thinking about ourselves. As soon as we fully know ourselves, then we acquire a level of understanding which goes beyond words. Mohammed Haroon draws upon the wisdom of age and experience - along with his motto that the greatest sense of satisfaction in life comes from helping others - to craft this unique and compelling self-help book, designed with one simple intention: to enable the reader to become the best version of themselves possible, and to realise their dreams as a result.

I’d like to start by saying I may seem at times a little direct but please rest assured that my intended audience is not people in general but rather every unique, fascinating individual who desires the truth. So – dearest individual – let me open with this: We are wonderful, and our life has value and meaning and it too is wonderful. We are a volume in the divine book; a mirror to the power that created the universe.

‘You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?’ – Rumi, Islamic scholar, and sufi mystic.

‘No man can reveal to you aught but that which already lies half-asleep in the dawning of your knowledge.’ – Khalil Gibran, artist, poet, and writer.

We are invisible beings living in visible bodies – a physical extension of that which is non-physical. ‘We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.’ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin - French philosopher. We are not only made of body and mind but also the spirit of who we are and what we want to become. It is a mortal body, and an eternal being is dwelling in it. This immortal part of us needs to be uncovered by removing the layers of ego to seek our true self.

On the spiritual level, we all are equal because we share the same divine source, but, on the non-spiritual level, we are different because of the egotism of our earthly life. We can recognise this in the way people think: ‘What’s in it for me? How can I get more? I want a BMW in my driveway next Thursday.’ All of that is what most spiritual teachers call the false self, the ego.

We are not only our thoughts, mind, feelings or body, but also we have limitless capabilities. We have access to anything and everything we wish to have. We are a unique and beautiful expression of the mysterious gift of life and creation. The basis of our life is freedom. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Our true purpose is to become our own unique self and fundamentally change our own life for the better, and also to help others make a more positive contribution to the world. Life is a journey but not a destination. It is a process full of energy; simply learn to enjoy it as we go along. We are co-creators; we create with our every thought.

When we begin to work with our inner or true self, we start to exercise higher levels of free will. Free will provides the general direction we want to go in, but not the actual means to get there. Relax and learn to go with the flow, even if not everything may turn out as we wish. We may be guided to a better alternative because the Creator knows better for us. Our true self is always in alignment with what is best for us. Once we act in accordance with our true self, it is impossible to be lonely or desperate. Connecting with and knowing our true self is a life-changing event. This is because we are then emotionally aware of our true self. We will be experiencing the actions, sensations and feelings that go with living a full life. It’s wonderful to be associated with such ma
