This book is the first comprehensive review of the subsurface monitoring theory and practice. It presents all aspects of a subsurface monitoring system SM-NI to be organized in impacted areas of nuclear industry enterprises. The content of the book covers the whole set of the SM-NI projecting and implementation issues - from the theoretical and regulatory framework, through the description of the sources of impact on geological environment to examples of use the SM-NI to solve environmental problems on the main types of environmentally significant nuclear industry enterprises. Development of the SM-NI was based on long-term research studies including modeling of pollutants transport in the geological environment.

The book is intended for a wide range of nuclear industry employees and specialists in environment protection and radiation safety of nuclear industry enterprises. It might be useful for ecologists, students and postgraduates concerned about environment protection in the field of nuclear technology

Mark Glinsky (1940-2019) graduated from the Moscow Institute for Geological Exploration. In 1962 he was hired in the Federal State Enterprise (FSE) 'Gydrospezgeologiya' where he worked all his life - from drilling foreman to First General Director Deputy. The main activity of the company was geological exploration at nuclear landfills. In 1974 he defended his thesis for the degree of ?andidate of Science (Technology). The main direction of his work in the later years of his life was the development and planning subsoil monitoring systems at the enterprises of the State Corporation 'Rosatom'.

Alexander Abramov was born in 1968, in 1994 graduated from the Leningrad Technological Institute with a degree in 'Radiochemical processes in nuclear power industry '. Worked in 1995-2010 for the Production Association 'Mayak' (production of nuclear materials), starting from an engineer to the Director of one of the factories as part of the industrial complex. Since 2010 A. Abramov has been working for the State Atomic Energy Corporation (SC) «Rosatom», at present - as the Director for public policy in the field of radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities (NRHF).

Le nid Chertkov (?orn 1942) graduated from the Moscow Institute for Geological Exploration with a degree in mining engineering (1969) and was hired in the Federal State Enterprise (FSE) 'Gydrospezgeologiya' where he works until now. In 1969 - 2009 as hydrogeologist, chief geologist he was engaged in research on radioactive contamination of the geological environment at nuclear fuel cycle sites. Since 2009 until now his main work - Chief hydrogeologist of the Subsoil Monitoring Center within the  FSE 'Gydrospezgeologiya'. Candidate of Science (Geology-Mineralogy, 1984)
