Sometimes the best intentions tangle the lives that act upon them. This is the case with Charlie Jericho who rescues an infant from a blazing train wreck only to have her change his life and the lives of others in their small Tennessee town. You see, Charlie's wife, Mae, has always wanted a baby and so convinces him to let her keep the child as their own. Unknowingly, they brush up against the powers of privilege and stumble upon corruption that stuns the community. White collar crime, kidnapping, blackmailing, arson, legal entanglements and even murder are revealed in this strong engaging plot.

“Take your time, Miss Gilliver,” he said. “The service will be in three days, as we’ve discussed, and if you want to include your niece, we’ll make sure she gets a propermemorial.”
