Chapter Four:

Spiritual Battles

The first step in this new knowledge is to understand spiritual battles. Simply put, a spiritual battle is when God, or Infinite Mind, commands or forbids you, to utter something or perform some act. You have the gift of choice, or free will, so it is within your right to comply or refuse. Any reluctance between the command and your compliance or refusal, is what the Holy Spirits called “being in the valley of decision.” For some issues this hesitation may be short; for others it might be longer, or much longer.

You may decide to submit immediately and later waiver. Again, you are in the valley of decision. Basically, this is a spiritual battle. This process continues until you make a choice. Or, you may refuse all together. In this instance, you have “chosen your own destiny”9 without any divine protection on that level in your life. The Holy Spirits will not intervene to either shield you or cause events in your life for protection or reward for compliance.

A simple way to understand a spiritual battle is to know that they occur when a choice must be made, and one person or group is in harmony with the will of God and the other is not; or when an individual or group must decide between good and evil. They occur when there is doubt. Their objects are obedience or repentance for some ill choice you made in the past. Obedience demonstrates your greater readiness for the Third Covenant with a closer relationship with Infinite Mind and Her love of you. We will talk more about spiritual battles as we go on.

That gnawing I mentioned earlier is a spiritual battle occurring in your life. Infinite Mind may be directing you to change something, to reject evil and to seek His righteousness in all you say or do. It may seem nonsensical or ill-timed from your standpoint. It may involve a specific choice, or a broad promise that from here forward, you will choose of Him. It may be something life altering or insignificant to you. Most times you do not understand the reason for the command and thus your true faith is tested.
