Chapter One
Surprise, Surprise!
Cat made an appointment with her doctor at the private woman’s clinic she had used for several years to confirm the positive test results and get a thorough examination, given the new circumstances. Of course, Sam, Caitlin, and Maddie went with her. She needed their love and support and they were eager to help her.
Cat’s doctor was a woman who understood Cat’s lifestyle, although she was not aware of her new living arrangements. Dr. Collins was also bisexual and lived with a partner of her own whom she had married. Cat trusted her and felt comfortable under her care. Her practice was well-managed, and her patients loved her. It was she whom the three girls had seen previously when they went for their checkups. It surprised her to see them again so soon. Cat went with the nurse into the exam room after a short wait. Maddie and Caitlin went with her. Sam remained in the waiting room.
“Hello, ladies,” she greeted them, “what brings you back so soon?”
Cat explained, “I have not been feeling well lately, occasional nausea, especially in the morning, and new feelings in my tummy. I also missed my last period.” Dr. Collins was checking her blood pressure, heartbeat, and temperature as she talked. “I think I might be pregnant and want you to check me out. I took an early pregnancy test, and it came back positive.”
“I see,” said the doctor. “How is your sex life these days?”
Cat smiled, “Very good, to say the least. The three of us live with Sam, and he is a wonderful man and a great lover. We girls also love each other and are very close.”
Caitlin took one of her hands and Maddie took the other one. Dr. Collins could see they were in love. She smiled, gave Cat a urine cup and directed her to the bathroom. While she was getting her sample, she asked Caitlin and Maddie if they were having any problems. They told her they were fine. Caitlin returned.
“How long has it been since your last period, Catherine?” she asked.
“About five weeks,” Cat answered.
“How long ago do you think it might have happened?”
“I don’t know precisely, but I would guess it happened almost two months ago. I have not been feeling my best for just over a week,” Cat answered. “I thought I might just have a tummy ache or something such as that.”
“The technician is testing your sample and should let us know the results in just a few minutes. Meanwhile, I am going to draw some blood and test that sample as well, just to be sure.”
The tech entered and gave the results to the doctor. “Thank you, Karin. Take this blood sample to the lab, please and have them test it immediately.” She did.
The doctor opened the urine test results. “This test is also positive. Your hCG level is off the chart, Catherine. We won’t know for a while, but you might be carrying twins.”
“Twins?” Cat almost fainted. Maddie and Caitlin showed their complete delight.
“Am I correct in assuming the gentleman who came with you is the father?”
“Yes,” Cat told her, “there has been no other man for quite some time, so unless Caitlin and Maddie have developed super powers, Sam is the one.” They all lightened up at her joke.
“He should be told. I’ll go get him,” Dr. Collins said. She left for a moment and returned with Sam.
