What Others Are Saying About This Book…
Few things are as important in life as knowing the right foundations upon which to build, whether that is a nation, a business, a family, or even one’s personal life. No one would think of building anything without understanding the proper foundation, and yet the Western Church has for years ignored one of the most critical foundational truths:the fear of the Lord. If the Scriptures tell us that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”, then understanding what this is must be central to everything else. Books on the subject are amazingly rare, but Dr. Alistair Petrie has written one of the best. InIn Holy Fear — Rediscovering the Fear of the Lord, he convincingly argues that the fear of the Lord is the missing key to sustained revival, the missing ingredient to intimacy with God, the missing prayer when it comes to impacting our cities with the Gospel. Many Christians don’t want to focus on this, because they feel it runs contrary to grace.Nothing could be further from the truth!
This book clearly reveals the connection between walking in the fear of the Lord and developing satisfying intimacy with God. Petrie sounds an important alarm bell for the Church in this hour. In our effort to be relevant, we are in danger of shrinking God to fit our comfort zones, and thus risk calling people to a Gospel that isn’t Biblical.
I urge every spiritual leader — pastors and mission leaders — to get cases of these books! In Holy Fear needs to be an indispensable part of any discipleship course.

Alistair Petrie, in the bookIn Holy Fear — Rediscovering the Fear of the Lord, uniquely and skilfully guides us into understanding of what a truly vibrant and empowering relationship with the Lord is. The many stories and analogies clearly help paint a visual of the importance of understanding the fear of the Lord. I resonated with the clarion wakeup call from any complacency so that we may have discernment for the days in which we are now living. I was reminded of God’s warning in Zephaniah chapter 1, verse 12: “At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are complacent…” Like Zephaniah, Alistair helps us to recognize that the Holy Spirit is going through the Church with lamps and shedding light on the dangers of complacency. Zephaniah had a huge influence in the Revivals and Reforms in the days of King Josiah. Today, we are in great need of Awakening in the Church if we are to see Transforming Revival and Reforms.
The message in this book is one critically needed today. Personally, I found the book quite engaging, encouraging and empowering.
In Holy Fear is not a challenge to measure up to some sort of man–made standards. Rather, by the Grace of God we can be fully awakened and aware of the times in which we live, and equipped to make a Kingdom difference in the lives of multi
