Operation Northstar details the exploits of Captain Walter Weber. Captain Weber is one of the OSS's first agents and is pressed into service to capture Germany's top saboteur- Nordstern (Northstar). The story is told by his nephew Sean Weber. Sean is left a series of file cabinets that have the de-classified files along with mementos of his exploits. From the grave, Captain Weber implores Sean to not make the two mistakes that altered his life forever. Captain Weber uses his Christian faith, superior intellect and his ability to lead a team to ultimately capture Northstar.
Chapter 1- Boca
I never liked Boca Raton. It was unbearably humid during its two seasons- summer and winter. I made a point to go there only when I had to. Today I had to and it was the height of summer. My Uncle Walter Weber had died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and a short battle with a heart attack. His attorney sent me an email noting that today we would read his will. It was just two weeks after the funeral. It took me nearly that much time to get over the shock of where it was and who had attended. His eternal resting place was Arlington National Cemetery. The attendees came from too many federal agencies to name and several foreign countries. All of the above set in place according to his wishes and accomplished without my knowledge. Not a problem for me. I arrived at the offices of Barfield, Horton, and McClure and settled down in their private conference room. I was his lone surviving relative.
My Uncle was a remarkable person. All three of the firm’s principals were in attendance as well as Selane Quinones. Selane had been my Uncle’s friend and caretaker for as long as I could remember and served as my mother from high school onward. At sixty-five years old, she was still a fine looking woman. She came over and hugged me. I asked about her son. He done well since Uncle Walter pulled the strings to get him into Harvard and then Harvard Med. He was now a successful heart surgeon. After an introduction to the partners, we settled down for the main event. The Honorable Jeffrey Barfield started the proceedings.
“I want to thank Sean and Selane for attending today. Per your Uncle’s request, you are the only two named in the will and the only two invited to this meeting. Your Uncle came to me three years ago when he received the diagnosis. He dictated this final version of his will. It is as he left it three years ago. Upon his death, per his instructions, two weeks after his funeral, we contacted both of you to come here today. Before we begin, please note that your Uncle completed arrangements with the IRS regarding estate taxes. Due to his meritorious government service with the US Army, CIA, OSS, NSA and other entities that remain top secret, there will be no estate taxes and his heirs are not subject to any inheritance taxes. I will read his statement and then we will proceed.
“I,
